| Leukaemia has been a part of our lives now for a very long time. Arabella, our 7 year old younger daughter, Rupert’s niece and Oliver’s cousin, first became ill in February 2006. Arabella underwent over 2 years of treatment including monthly intravenous chemotherapy, only to relapse 18 months later, in October last year. At that point, she was treated with higher dose chemotherapy, but when it became apparent that it might not work well enough, she then endured a bone marrow transplant, with massive amounts of chemotherapy and total body irradiation. Since October last year, Arabella has spent a total of 26 weeks in hospital, missed the whole of year 2 at school and, due to her treatment, will have lifelong medication to take. And, of course, we still have the uncertainty as to whether it has worked or not. READ MORE............. |

Village Politics go absolutely Mad
There has been a great deal of national publicy during the past week or so. The very unpleasant personal and public interaction between local Land Owner Brian Herrick and Rear Admiral Peter Kidner (Rtd) has been the cause of consternation throughout the Country and given South Petherton a national reputation which is thoroughly undeserved.
The arrogance of National Rambling Groups coming into the area and wilfully causing friction between our residents is wholly unacceptable. Like the bully boys they are, they do massive damage then depart whence they came and local people are then left to pick up the pieces.
Nice to see East Lambrook's Dennis back on our home page. Always popular with our Sunday walkers, still as fiesty as ever and keeping the best of company.

A very personal public and rather repugnant argument in South Petherton is now entering it's fourth litigation phase, attracting even higher court costs. All in the name of, and allegedly in the best interests of the walking public. What a joke! CLICK HERE
After five days of argument in Taunton's Crown Court it has, on a technicality, now been decided that the post (on the left side of the picture) is actually causing an obstruction to walkers!
Well here are nine walkers who, very obviously, are struggling to get through the gate!

This argument, while once resolved by Yeovil Magistrates Court, was forced into the Crown Court by two parties very questionable liasion. Somerset County Council and voluntary Footpath Liasion Officer, Peter Kidner (Rear Admiral Retired). Apart from, what is locally described as Kidner's very personal vendetta, over half a million pounds has now been expended in costs as a consequence of the Council's and Kidner's actions. All this just to demonstrate that walkers are being obstructed in their use of this footpath. This must be sheer madness, the lunacy equating to well over £100 for each person living in South Petherton.
And 'Yes' People of South Petherton and Somerset as a whole, watch your Council Tax Bill rise because of stupid, totally unnecessary actions such as these. We must continue to complain and curb this nonsense.
Barcroft Hall - Notice Owing to the legal action of Rear Admiral P. Kidner against Somerset County Council and the landowners our entrance pillars are being demolished to provide an 8 metre wide footpath as he demands. In addition we are independently remodelling this adjacent field area to enhance the walking experience near the sewage works which includes further wildlife areas and a comprehensive native tree planting scheme. We hope that these changes cause as little inconvenience as possible to walkers 8th. March 2010 Read More - Click Here |
Here we go again, this time it is North Street!
Once again residents. landowners and walkers are pitted against each over a 'rights of way' issue created by, who some describe as. the notorious and self styled Parish Paths Liaison Officer, Rear Admiral Peter KIdner (Rtd).
We surely all want a pragmatic sensible solution to this and all footpath problems that arise which are satisfactory to all concerned. In this case one obvious solution may be the creation of a new pavement?
Land grabbing and self interest aside what is the problem, how can we resolve it? Or will it take the death of a pedestrian, maybe a child, before the powers that be wake up and realise common sense needs to prevail.
