Yandles Autumn Show

Celebrating 150 years.

Founded in 1860 in Martock, originally as builders, Yandles progressed into Milling timber by the end of the first world war. This continued into the late 1970s when Dutch Elm disease changed the face of sawmilling in Britain.

With new raw materials needed, Yandles expanded into other native and imported varieties of timber, establishing the ideas behind the business you see today.

A maximum of fourteen at a time may join this, just over one and a half hour walk that takes in some of the prettiest countryside in the area. The walk is a mixture of woodlands, farm footpaths and road walking passing streams and lakes on the way, calling in at Perry’s Cider Farm, Dowlish Wake enroute. September and October is the time of year when cider apples are pressed and Perry’s are one of the few cider makers who press apples using the traditional ‘Rack and Cloth’ method. Perry’s have only been around for 120 years or so, but cider has been made in this area for well over 500 years. Local Hamlets date back to before the 17th century, this being testified to in the abundance of old cottages and thatch roofs. After passing Dowlish Wake's New Inn we head towards Allowenshay, another delightful hamlet and then on to Dinnington, and the Dinnington Docks where Nippybus will pick us up around 2.00pm.

Pheasants are bred in this area, and we have been asked to take care when passing through woodland and over farm tracks where they are being raised.

We are required to advise Nippy of numbers travelling. Please phone or email the day before if you would like to be included. Car share may be possible for those who cannot find a seat on the bus.

Adult fares are approximately £3.25 single £4.95 return, Over 60? Free Bus passes do apply.

Sorry, Dogs are not encouraged on the Bus.

Boots always advisable, wellies if the previous days have been wet.
